TRIP Trainings and Workshops
Because Knowledge IS Power

Every year, TRIP is responsible for sponsoring a variety of trainings and workshops, which are open to anyone to attend. Our presentations cover a range of topics, depending on which trainings and workshops are needed, or requested by parents.

Here are just a few of the seminars we have done recently...

Parents Empowering Parents

In this training and workshop, parents who have been navigating the health and education systems for their own children, relay what they have learned from their own experiences, to parents who are just getting started on a similiar journey themselves. It makes a huge difference in knowing that you are not alone in your situation, no matter how unique or difficult it may seem.

IEP/504 (Special Education)

IEP stands for Individualized Education Plan, and is a blueprint for your child's education, from elementary to middle to high school, and even college. It outlines the accomodations to be made in the classroom, and school environment, to help you child be successful in their academic career. This training and workshop covers the evaluation process, reviewing the test results, and determining the accomodations to be made. Since the IEP process is covered by the IDEA act, the guidelines are set at the federal level, and all public schools are required to participate.

Recovery and Resiliency

This training and workshop shows that in many instances, people can and do recover from a mental health issue. To reach the recovery stage, the client needs to have adequate support and services in place which allows them to maintain a level of resiliency, while on the path of recovery. This workshop offers many tools and techniques for achieving these goals.

Prison Speak Out

An 11 member panel of inmates from the Monroe Correctional Facility has an open, and candid forum with kids and their parents. The panel describe their daily life in a correctional facility, and how the decisions they have made, have affected their lives and their families forever. This is not a "Scared Straight" presentation. The parents and kids who attend can ask the panel questions, and get direct, honest responses from the members. At our last Speak Out, an hour after the event was to end, the questions were still coming in to the panel.
